FAQ
Short answers. One idea per question. Deeper pages are linked.
Is Kalam free?
Yes. Kalam is free to use. Pro adds a little more polish, your own profiles, and sync across your computers. Prices are on kalamvoice.com/pricing. Details: Plans.
Do I need an account?
You can skip sign-in. The setup wizard lets you continue without an account. Sign in later if you want a license, trial, or sync.
Is it on Windows, macOS, and Linux? Is it stable?
Public builds today are beta for Windows, Linux, and macOS. Download from kalamvoice.com/download. Settings → About can show a Stable channel for when those builds ship. See Installation and Updating and the beta channel.
Where is the Linux pill?
There is no floating pill on Linux. Status lives in a panel chip (applet) for GNOME, KDE, Cinnamon, MATE, Xfce, and COSMIC. Linux panel chip.
What is Hybrid?
Hybrid (and Auto) are not live speech engines and are not on the status bar. Each mode has a named provider. The status bar shows that pretty name (for example Groq) and the mode name. Status bar.
What is Max?
Max is named and not for sale. When it ships it will run hosted listening and polish. Pro is the paid plan you can buy today. Plans.
Does audio leave this computer?
It depends on the provider on the active mode. A local engine keeps audio on this computer. A cloud provider (your key) sends audio to that provider. Max hosted STT is not for sale yet. See Speech-to-text and Privacy.
Voice commands vs Improve?
Voice commands (period, new line, scratch that, …) run only when Improve did not rewrite the take. Improve is the optional AI rewrite. Voice actions (new note, search for, …) use the same hotkey and skip Improve.
Uninstall vs reset?
Reset keeps the app installed: wizard again, wipe local data, or wipe cloud sync. Uninstall removes the program. Uninstall does not always delete settings unless you ask.
How do I get help?
Email hello@balacode.io. The app’s Settings → About links kalamvoice.com and these docs. Attach OS, version, and a log export from Diagnostics.
