First-run setup

The setup wizard runs once on first launch and configures the essentials. Everything it sets can be changed later in Settings.

Step 1 — Account

Sign in with your Kalam account (opens your browser for approval), paste a license key, or skip and use the Free plan.

Step 2 — Access

  • Grant microphone permission when Windows prompts.
  • Choose your input device from the microphone list.
  • Run the built-in mic test to confirm levels.

Step 3 — Shortcuts

  • Hold to dictate — press and hold to record, release to insert.
  • Toggle dictation — press once to start, again to stop.
  • Recognition languages — pick the languages you speak.

Step 4 — Try it

Connect a speech engine: paste a Groq or OpenAI API key, or download a local model. Then dictate a test sentence to verify the full loop.
