First-run setup
The setup wizard runs once on first launch and configures the essentials. Everything it sets can be changed later in Settings.
Step 1 — Account
Sign in with your Kalam account (opens your browser for approval), paste a license key, or skip and use the Free plan.
Step 2 — Access
- Grant microphone permission when Windows prompts.
- Choose your input device from the microphone list.
- Run the built-in mic test to confirm levels.
Step 3 — Shortcuts
- Hold to dictate — press and hold to record, release to insert.
- Toggle dictation — press once to start, again to stop.
- Recognition languages — pick the languages you speak.
Step 4 — Try it
Connect a speech engine: paste a Groq or OpenAI API key, or download a local model. Then dictate a test sentence to verify the full loop.
Changing things later

|---|---|
| Account | Account → Profile / Plan |
| Microphone and permissions | Settings → Voice Input |
| Hotkeys and languages | Settings → General |
| Speech provider | Settings → AI & Models, or the status bar |
Re-run the wizard
Settings → General → Startup → Re-run setup wizard walks through all four steps again without resetting anything else.
