Permissions by OS
Kalam asks for a small set of OS permissions. Each maps to a specific feature.
Windows
| Permission | Why Kalam needs it | Without it |
|---|---|---|
| Microphone | Capture your voice for dictation | Dictation cannot record |
| Accessibility / input injection | Type transcribed text into other apps | Text is copied to clipboard instead of typed |
Grant microphone access when Windows prompts on first launch, or later in Settings → Voice Input → Microphone.
macOS
macOS builds are in development. When they ship, Kalam will need Microphone, Accessibility, and Input Monitoring permissions — the standard set for dictation apps.
Privacy
Permissions let Kalam hear you and type for you. What happens to your audio afterward depends on your speech-to-text mode — local modes never send audio off your device.
